Another IndiGo flight was suddenly diverted to Mumbai after a bomb threat
Mumbai: In yet another security scare for India’s largest airline, an IndiGo flight bound for Hyderabad from Sharjah was diverted to Mumbai on Thursday following a bomb threat.
The development comes only hours after a similar threat forced another IndiGo aircraft, operating on the Madinah-Hyderabad route, to make an emergency landing in Ahmedabad.
The Sharjah-origin IndiGo flight was halfway through its journey to Hyderabad when security agencies received information about a potential explosive threat on board. FlightRadar24 data confirmed the mid-air diversion, after which the aircraft landed safely in Mumbai. Upon landing, security teams immediately took charge, initiating standard bomb-threat response protocols.
IndiGo flight diverted to Ahmedabad over bomb threat; Emergency landing carried out
As of now, the airline is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Passenger details and inspection status remain awaited from authorities.
Earlier the same day, panic grips surfaced when an IndiGo aircraft flying from Madinah to Hyderabad received an email warning that the plane would be blown up if allowed to land at its intended destination. Acting swiftly, air traffic control redirected the aircraft to Ahmedabad, where it landed around noon.
The flight, carrying more than 180 passengers and six crew members, was escorted to an isolated bay for security checks. Ahmedabad Zone Four Deputy Police Commissioner Atul Bansal confirmed the threat email, adding that a full inspection was carried out to ensure passenger safety. All onboard were screened thoroughly while the aircraft remained grounded for verification.
The twin bomb threats come at a time when IndiGo is already facing severe operational challenges across major airports. The airline has been under the scanner this week due to widespread delays and cancellations prompted by changes to crew rostering rules.
Over 70 IndiGo flights cancelled due to crew shortages; Here’s what airline says
On Thursday alone, more than 300 flights were cancelled across the country. Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru saw the worst impact, with dozens of incoming and outgoing services disrupted. A day prior, close to 200 flights were reported cancelled across key metro airports.
The consecutive bomb threat incidents, paired with nationwide flight disruptions, have amplified pressure on IndiGo’s management. As investigations into both email threats continue, passengers await clarity, calm, and a return to reliable travel operations.
