New Delhi: The situation regarding the flood is serious, with the number of dead bodies going up to 75, while over 11.44 lakh people are affected due to the flood in 25 districts during the period of April 29 to July 28, according to the recent flood assessment.
The deadly flood has affected thousands of people in Assam, while the rescue and relief operations have not been stopped by the administration in many places that have been affected by the floods.
Sivasagar has reported the highest death toll from floods with 37 people dead, Charaideo 20, and Jorhat nine.
The other places where people died include Dhemaji three people, Golaghat and Kamrup two each, and Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan one each.
There are eight missing persons, out of which seven are from Sivasagar and one from Dhemaji.
The flooding in Assam has led to the displacement of over 2185 villages and 77 revenue circles. In a bid to cater to the displaced people, 215 camps have been set up, and at least 71,000 people have sought refuge in these centers.
Besides, 1,718 relief camps have been opened in order to offer aid and assistance to the displaced individuals.
There has been considerable damage to residential buildings in the flooded regions. According to reports by authorities, 1,368 residential buildings have been totally ruined and 11,066 other buildings have been partially destroyed.
A total of 29,987 people have been rescued from dangerous areas and have been relocated elsewhere.
With the water levels still posing a problem to many people, the Assam government is making every effort to keep track of the developments.
