Patna: The Bihar government has suspended a Special Investigation Team (SIT) jawan accused of allegedly opening fire during a student protest in Siwan, an incident that left three students injured.

The action comes amid growing political pressure, with Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav warning of a statewide agitation if arrested students are not released.

SIT Personnel Suspended After Firing Allegations

The suspended jawan has been identified as Abhishek Patel, who was part of the SIT deployed during the protest. According to officials, Patel allegedly fired an AK-47 during the violence, injuring three students. The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Patna. The suspension is the first disciplinary action taken in connection with the incident.

Tejashwi Yadav Issues Deadline

The incident has triggered a political confrontation in Bihar. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav demanded the release of arrested students and his brother Tej Pratap Yadav, along with the withdrawal of cases registered against them. He warned that if the demands are not met by the deadline, his party would launch a statewide agitation.

Multiple FIRs Registered, Hundreds Booked

Police have intensified their investigation by registering three FIRs related to the clashes. Around 100 individuals have been named in the cases, while nearly 200 others have been booked as unidentified accused. Officials said about 25 people have been medically examined before being sent to judicial custody, and raids are continuing to trace others allegedly involved in the violence.

Police Personnel Also Sustained Injuries

Authorities said the clashes injured several police personnel, including Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha, Town Police Station Inspector Avinash Kumar and nearly 30 other officers. Investigators are examining both the circumstances that led to the firing and the violence that unfolded during the protest.
