New Delhi: Delhi Police has urged residents to follow prohibitory orders around Connaught Place ahead of a proposed gathering at Central Park at 5 pm on Friday, October 16, where people have been called upon to carry the national flag. The advisory comes after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appealed to their supporters and members of the public to join the gathering.

Police have warned that violations of the restrictions could invite legal action.

Section 163 Restrictions in Force Around Connaught Place

In a video message on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Neha Yadav appealed to the public not to participate in assemblies that violate orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). She said the restrictions were intended to maintain public order, protect lives and safeguard public and private property. Police also said they wanted to prevent disruptions to traders and shopkeepers operating in Connaught Place, particularly during the festive season.

Central Park Closed on October 16 and 17

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has informed Delhi Police that Central Park will remain closed on October 16 and 17 for administrative reasons. The civic body has requested security arrangements to prevent unauthorised entry into the premises.  Market and trade associations in the area have also sought protection for their establishments, expressing concern that unlawful gatherings could affect business activity during the festive period.

Police May Consider Alternative Venue for Flag Event

Delhi Police said it could consider facilitating a suitable designated location for a limited group to carry the Tricolour and sing the national anthem, provided the necessary guidelines are followed and the national symbols are treated with due respect. The police reiterated that legal action would be taken against those violating the prohibitory orders.

Delhi High Court Takes Note of Business Concerns

The Delhi High Court has taken note of concerns over possible disruptions to commercial activity in the area. Police have assured that appropriate measures will be taken to address these concerns while maintaining peace and public safety.

Residents and visitors have been advised to follow official instructions before travelling to Connaught Place.
