Langley (British Columbia): A 23-year-old man of Punjab origin has been shot dead in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, with investigators suspecting that he may have been deliberately targeted. Authorities are also examining a vehicle found burning shortly after the shooting to establish whether it was connected to the killing.
According to a report by Khalsa Vox, the incident occurred on October 5, when officers from the Langley detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to reports of gunfire in the 6,000 block of 200 Street. Police received the call at approximately 9:45 pm local time.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a young man with gunshot injuries in the parking lot of a commercial complex near 200 Street and 60 Avenue. Emergency responders attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the victim’s identity. He was reportedly a Langley resident with roots in Punjab. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine who was responsible.
Approximately 20 minutes after the shooting, police received another report about a vehicle engulfed in flames near the intersection of 232 Street and 75 Avenue. Investigators subsequently discovered a burnt sedan and are examining whether it was connected to the fatal shooting, according to Khalsa Vox.
Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle was deliberately set on fire and whether it could provide clues about the movements of those involved in the incident. However, a direct connection between the burning vehicle and the killing has not yet been publicly established.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is leading the investigation in coordination with Integrated Forensic Identification Services, Langley RCMP and the British Columbia Coroners Service. Investigators are gathering evidence and examining the circumstances of the shooting, including the possible connection between the two incidents. The forensic examination of the crime scene and the burnt vehicle could help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events.
Preliminary findings reportedly suggest that the victim may have been deliberately targeted. Investigators are also examining the possibility of a gang-related connection. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed that the shooting was linked to any gang, and no suspects have been publicly identified or detained, according to the supplied report. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.
The fatal shooting has prompted an investigation involving several law enforcement and forensic agencies in British Columbia. Investigators are working to establish the victim's identity publicly, determine the motive and verify whether the burnt sedan was used in connection with the attack.
