New Delhi: A big question has been in the minds of people for some time regarding the corona vaccine - is there any connection between sudden heart attack deaths after COVID-19 vaccination?
Such apprehensions were being expressed on social media and many public forums, which created confusion among the general public about the vaccine.
This question has now been clearly answered by the country's two major health institutions - AIIMS Delhi and ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) - in their recent study.
In a detailed study conducted by both these institutions, it has been found that there is no direct or indirect relationship between the COVID-19 vaccine and sudden deaths among the youth.
What did the study reveal?
Two independent research conducted by AIIMS and ICMR have concluded that heart attack, genetic mutation, post-Covid complications and irregular lifestyle are the main causes of sudden death in the youth. Vaccination is not the reason for any of these.
First study
ICMR's National Institute of Epidemiology
ICMR's National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) conducted a multicentric case-control study titled "Factors associated with unexplained sudden deaths among adults aged 18-45 years in India". The study was conducted in 19 states and 47 hospitals between May and August 2023. It included individuals who were previously completely healthy, but died suddenly between October 2021 and March 2023.
The conclusion was that taking the COVID vaccine does not increase the risk of sudden death.
Second study
The study titled “Establishing the cause in sudden unexplained deaths in young” being conducted in collaboration with ICMR at AIIMS Delhi is a prospective research, in which the causes of death are being analyzed directly through case studies.
According to preliminary data, heart attack continues to be the leading cause of sudden death among young people and no major change has been observed in this pattern.
Rumors about the vaccine can cause harm
The AIIMS and ICMR report also warns that rumors linking the COVID vaccine and sudden deaths are not only false and unscientific, but can also cause serious harm to public health.
These rumors can lead to increased vaccine hesitancy, due to which a large number of people will not be able to get the necessary vaccination to protect against future epidemics or waves of infection.
Government and scientific institutions are doing evidence-based work
The government, institutions like ICMR and AIIMS are constantly trying to provide reliable information to the public through evidence-based research so that fake news can be stopped and awareness can be spread in the society.
The COVID-19 vaccine is completely safe and effective in India. Both AIIMS and ICMR studies have made it clear that the vaccine has no connection with heart attacks or sudden deaths.
The public should trust scientific facts instead of rumors and consult a doctor or expert if there is any doubt regarding vaccination.
