New Delhi: The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate senior BJP leader and former Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan is the new Vice-President of India, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Radhakrishnan comfortably won the Vice-Presidential election today on Tuesday. He defeated the opposition-backed candidate B Sudershan Reddy in a direct contest.
CP Radhakrishnan will be the 15th Vice-President of the country. He secured 452 votes out of the 767 valid votes in the 17th Vice-Presidential election held in Parliament today. The Opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy got 300 votes.

The voting for the Vice-Presidential polls began this morning at 10 and closed at 5 in the evening followed by counting of votes at 6pm. Soon after the result was announced where NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan was declared winner.
CP Radhakrishnan was born on 4 May 1957 in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He started his career as an RSS Swayamsevak and became a State Executive Committee Member of the Bharatiya Janasangh in 1974.
In 1996, Radhakrishnan was appointed the Secretary of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Coimbatore in 1998. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999.
During his tenure as an MP Radhakrishnan served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Textiles. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Committee for Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and the Consultative Committee for Finance.
Besides he was a member of the Parliamentary Special Committee investigating the Stock Exchange Scam.
In 2004, Radhakrishnan addressed the UN General Assembly as part of the Parliamentary Delegation. He was also a member of the first Parliamentary delegation to Taiwan.
Radhakrishnan was the State President of the BJP in Tamil Nadu between 2004 and 2007. As a Tamil Nadu BJP President he undertook a 19,000 km ‘Ratha Yatra’ that lasted for 93 days.
The main objective of the Yatra was to highlight his demands for the linking of all Indian rivers, eradicating terrorism, implementing a uniform civil code, removing untouchability and combating the menace of narcotic drugs.
Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Chairman of the Coir Board, Kochi in 2016 for four years.
On 18 February 2023 Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand and on 31 July 2024 he was sworn in as the Governor of Maharashtra.

Radhakrishnan was a college champion in table tennis and a long-distance runner. He also enjoyed cricket and volleyball.
CP Radhakrishnan has widely travelled to a number of foreign countries including the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Turkey, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Egypt, UAE, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Japan.
