New Delhi: Glamorous and bold actress of the 90s, Mamta Kulkarni, who now lives a spiritual life as a Sadhvi, is once again in the news. Her recent statement in Gorakhpur has sparked a new debate on social media and in political circles.
Mamta made a statement in support of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim that shocked everyone.
Called Dawood Ibrahim innocent
During an interview, Mamta Kulkarni said, “Dawood Ibrahim is not a terrorist. He did not carry out any bomb blasts in Mumbai.” She said that Dawood has been wrongly linked to terrorism.

However, she also clarified that she has never met Dawood. Following this statement, social media was flooded with reactions, some called it an “insult to the judicial process,” while others called it a “publicity stunt.”
The 1993 Mumbai Blasts
This statement is further controversial because the 1993 Mumbai bombings killed 257 people. Both the CBI and the NIA named Dawood Ibrahim as the mastermind of the blasts.
Indian security agencies have long maintained that Dawood is linked to the ISI and is hiding in Pakistan. In this context, Mamta Kulkarni’s statement not only questions the agencies’ investigations but also challenges the hundreds of pieces of evidence that led to Dawood being declared a “most wanted” terrorist.
Sadhvi Mamta Nand Giri
Mamta Kulkarni also stated in her statement that she no longer has any connection to politics or the film industry. She explained that she has been engaged in spiritual practice for the past several years and now lives as a monk under the name “Mamta Nand Giri.”
She claimed that after 12 years of penance, she returned to India during the Kumbh Mela and formally took sanyas there.
From Bollywood to Sadhvi
Mamta Kulkarni gained immense popularity in the 1990s with superhit films like “Karan Arjun,” “Krantiveer,” “Baazi,” and “Krishna.” She was known as Bollywood’s “It Girl” but suddenly disappeared from the film industry in the late 1990s.
Later, in 2016, her name was linked to a drug trafficking case in Kenya, in which her alleged husband, Vikram Goswami, was arrested. She was also linked to the Dawood gang, although Mamta has always denied these allegations.
Husband worked for Dawood
Itwas being claimed that her husband was arrested after a tip-off from gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Vikram Goswami, who earlier used to work with gangsters Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan, had chosen the latter over the former when they parted ways after the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

This new statement by Mamta Kulkarni not only brings her image back into controversy but also sparks discussions about the judicial process and national security in the country.
While on one hand she is describing herself as being on the “spiritual path,” on the other hand her statement has become a cause of both controversy and curiosity for the people.
