New Delhi: Residents of Delhi-NCR can expect a week of thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast suggests that changing weather conditions will bring relief from the intense summer heat that typically grips the region in early June.
The IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures in the national capital are likely to stay below the 40-degree Celsius mark until at least June 5. The expected spell of rain and cloud cover is set to keep daytime temperatures in check while improving overall weather conditions.
On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7 degrees Celsius, which was 2.3 degrees below the seasonal average. Over the past few days, the city has experienced relatively mild weather compared to the scorching conditions witnessed earlier in the season.
The cooler temperatures have provided temporary respite to residents, many of whom have been dealing with fluctuating weather patterns and high humidity levels.
Meanwhile, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has reported that El Niño conditions are developing in the tropical Pacific Ocean. The phenomenon is being driven by unusually warm ocean surface temperatures and is expected to influence weather patterns across the globe in the coming months.
Meteorologists warn that El Niño can alter rainfall distribution and temperature trends worldwide, increasing the likelihood of extreme weather events in several regions. While its exact impact on India will be closely monitored, global agencies are keeping a watch on evolving climate conditions as the weather pattern strengthens.
Experts say the combination of regional weather systems and larger climate influences could make the coming months significant for weather forecasting and preparedness.
