DGP Nalin Prabhat reviews security in Jammu and kashmir ahead of 80th Independence Day
Srinagar/Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday reviewed the comprehensive security preparedness across the Union Territory ahead of Independence Day celebrations, directing security forces and law-enforcement agencies to maintain a heightened state of alert and ensure seamless coordination to counter any emerging threat.
The DGP chaired a high-level hybrid security review meeting at Police Control Room Kashmir, bringing together senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other security formations. The meeting focused on strengthening the multi-layered security architecture, reviewing operational readiness and ensuring foolproof arrangements for peaceful Independence Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior officers, including Special DGP Coordination, ADGP CID, senior officials from BSF and CRPF, Inspector Generals of Police of Kashmir and Jammu zones, IGP Security, IGP Railways, IGP Traffic, range DIGs, district SSPs and other key officers participated in the review meeting through physical and virtual modes.
During the meeting, DGP Nalin Prabhat conducted a detailed assessment of the prevailing security environment and reviewed operational preparedness of various security units deployed across Jammu and Kashmir.
The discussions focused on strengthening intelligence-based operations, improving real-time information sharing, enhancing surveillance mechanisms and ensuring coordinated responses among different security agencies. Officers also reviewed counter-infiltration measures, area domination strategies and preventive security protocols aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the Union Territory.
The DGP directed all formations to adopt a proactive policing approach and maintain constant vigilance, particularly in sensitive and vulnerable areas. He emphasised that timely intelligence inputs, effective communication channels and swift operational responses would remain crucial in preventing attempts to disrupt law and order.
The security review also covered arrangements at major Independence Day venues across Jammu and Kashmir, with special emphasis on Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where the main UT-level celebration will be organised.
DGP Prabhat directed officers to ensure robust access control systems, anti-sabotage measures, route security, surveillance arrangements and deployment of adequate manpower at all important locations.
Security agencies were instructed to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) strictly while ensuring that public movement remains smooth and citizens attending the celebrations do not face unnecessary inconvenience.
Officials also discussed traffic regulation plans, parking management systems and crowd-control measures around major venues to ensure smooth movement of visitors, dignitaries and participants during the national celebration.
The DGP directed field formations to intensify night patrolling, naka checking and surveillance operations, particularly at vulnerable locations, inter-district borders and areas requiring enhanced security attention.
Officers were instructed to maintain effective area domination through coordinated deployment of police personnel and security forces. Enhanced monitoring of suspicious activities, improved ground intelligence collection and close coordination between different agencies were highlighted as key components of the security strategy.
The meeting also reviewed deployment patterns, intelligence inputs, traffic management systems and emergency response mechanisms to ensure quick action in case of any security challenge.
DGP Nalin Prabhat stressed that close coordination between the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, CAPFs and intelligence agencies would be essential for maintaining a secure environment during the Independence Day period.
He called upon officers to remain alert, responsive and mission-oriented while ensuring that security operations are carried out efficiently without affecting normal public life. The meeting concluded with security agencies reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a strong security framework, preventing disruptive activities and ensuring peaceful Independence Day celebrations throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
