Why do earthquakes occur?

It is believed that tectonic activities are quite active in the Hindukush mountainous region. Due to the shifting of the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate, earthquakes are often felt in this region. On 6 August, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was also felt here.
