New Delhi: Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) can expect much-needed respite from the heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms over the next three days.
The weather department has issued a rainfall and gusty wind alert from Sunday, October 5 to October 7 due to the impact of a fresh western disturbance and moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spells is likely in parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected, particularly during the evening and night hours.
As per the officials said the rainfall will bring a noticeable drop in day temperatures, providing relief after Delhi recorded one of the hottest Septembers in the past two years.
Maximum temperatures are likely to settle around 31–33°C, while minimums may hover between 23–25°C. Morning hours will remain humid and cloudy, while afternoons could see intermittent showers and cool breezes in several parts of the region.
Authorities have also warned of waterlogging and traffic congestion in low-lying areas due to heavy downpours. Commuters have been advised to plan travel accordingly and avoid flooded roads. In recent spells of rain, major roads in Delhi and Noida witnessed knee-deep water, leading to long traffic snarls and flight delays.
The western disturbance will also impact several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where the IMD has issued a rainfall and thunderstorm warning. Cities such as Meerut, Agra, Bareilly, Lucknow, and Varanasi may experience moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Northern UP regions bordering Uttarakhand are expected to witness gusty winds up to 40 kmph, making conditions cooler and more comfortable.
Heavy rains cause severe waterlogging and traffic jams in Delhi NCR
In Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall has been predicted in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Chamoli, with the possibility of landslides and waterlogging in hilly areas.
The state disaster management authority has urged tourists and local residents to avoid trekking or travelling to vulnerable zones over the next 48 hours. Rivers in the foothill regions are also being closely monitored due to a potential rise in water levels.
