Five family members drown in Godavari River during pilgrimage to Basara

Nirmal: In a heart-wrenching tragedy, five members of a family drowned in the River Godavari at Basara here on Sunday.

The incident occurred when a group of 18 people from Hyderabad visited Basara to offer prayers to Goddess Saraswati.

According to police sources, the family had gone to the banks of the river as part of their pilgrimage. During the course of bathing in the river, five individuals were drowned. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and began rescue operations with the help of local divers.

So far, four bodies have been recovered from the river, while one person remains missing. The retrieved bodies were shifted to the Bhainsa Area Hospital for post-mortem. Efforts are still underway to locate the fifth victim.

Police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation.
