Specially-abled children perform National Anthem in sign language
Srinagar: On the occasion of Independence Day here in Srinagar specially-abled children perform the national anthem in sign language. Srinagar hosted a very special celebration of 79th Independence Day, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
In sign language students from two special education schools sang the National Anthem. Everyone in attendance was moved by this performance which was the first of its kind to take place in the city.
The Jammu and Kashmir Department of Archives Archaeology and Museums organized the event which took place at the Shri Pratap Museum. Pupils from the Voluntary Medical Society in Bemina and Abhinandan Home School in Rambagh participated in the festivities. While some students had various special needs others were visually impaired and some had speech and hearing impairments.
Archives Archaeology and Museums Director KK Sidha stated that these students serve as a model for all. He remarked that they have carved out a niche for themselves in society and overcome many obstacles. He also emphasized the need for society to be more understanding and provide individuals with special needs with equal opportunities to develop and thrive. The inclusion of students with special needs in the Independence Day program was justified according to Sidha.
Making this event special and inclusive was our goal. Students who typically avoid such events were invited. You will notice that they are as thrilled as everyone else he said. The students performance of the National Anthem in Indian sign language demonstrated their enthusiasm and commitment. This performance taught everyone to be brave and to keep going.
A government school in Srinagar that helps with specially-abled students is called Abhinandan Home School. Serving 120 students it is the only government school of its kind in the area. The Rehabilitation Council of India New Delhi provided training for the special education teachers at the school.
The national anthem in Indian sign language was taught to the students by these teachers. The pupils put in a week of intense practice to get ready for the day according to Mudasir Sofi the principal of Abhinandan Home School.
For allowing the students to participate in such a significant event he thanked KK Sidha. The students amazing performance was greeted with applause and cheers from everyone in attendance. It was demonstrated by this unique celebration that all Indian citizens are entitled to Independence Day and that everyones involvement matters.
