IMD issues yellow alert (Internet)
New Delhi: A fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms is set to sweep across Delhi-NCR, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a yellow alert for the region. The change in weather is being driven by an active western disturbance, which is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall along with a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures across parts of North and Northwest India.
Unsettled Weather Across Northern States
According to the IMD, at least 11 states-including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar-are likely to experience unstable weather conditions. Strong winds reaching speeds of up to 85 kmph may pose risks such as falling branches, reduced visibility, and local disruptions. The yellow alert indicates the likelihood of thunderstorms, rain, and gusty winds, urging residents to stay cautious.
What’s Behind the Sudden Weather Shift?
The current weather pattern is largely influenced by a western disturbance, a system known to bring rain and cooler conditions to northern parts of India. As a result, minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3°C, making mornings and evenings noticeably cooler.
Hill states are also expected to feel the impact. Regions in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh could face heightened risks of landslides and avalanches due to persistent rainfall and changing atmospheric conditions.
Delhi-NCR Forecast
For Wednesday, Delhi-NCR is likely to witness cloudy skies, intermittent rain, and strong winds. Isolated thunderstorms are also expected, with one or two spells of rainfall during the day. Temperatures in the capital may range between 16°C (minimum) and 27°C (maximum).
Outlook for the Coming Days
Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from Thursday onward, with partly cloudy skies. Between April 10 and 11, clearer skies and rising temperatures are likely, with maximum temperatures reaching 33-34°C.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand districts such as Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh may experience light to moderate rainfall along with winds of up to 60 kmph. In Himachal Pradesh, areas including Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, and Kinnaur are forecast to receive moderate to heavy rainfall between April 8 and 10.
Residents across affected regions are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions amid the shifting weather conditions.
