Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday emphasised the enduring relevance of non-violence, compassion and intellectual humility in today’s world while addressing a gathering in Jammu. He was speaking at celebrations marking Mahavir Jayanti, organised by the S.S. Jain Sabha.
Extending his greetings on the occasion, Sinha encouraged people to adopt the teachings of Lord Mahavira in their daily lives.

The Lieutenant Governor underlined the importance of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Anekantavada (acceptance of multiple perspectives) in fostering peace and social harmony. He noted that these principles are particularly significant in a world facing conflicts and divisions.
According to Sinha, true strength lies in peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, rather than confrontation.
Referring to India’s development path under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sinha said the country is sending a clear message that peace is rooted in courage and conviction. He highlighted the need to build bridges and promote unity instead of deepening divisions.
He also stressed that ethical conduct and personal responsibility are key drivers of long-term progress.
Sinha urged the youth to rethink their relationship with nature and adopt environmentally responsible practices. He described Ahimsa not only as a social value but also as a guiding principle for sustainable living.
He encouraged young people to integrate compassion and restraint into their lifestyle choices, linking these values to environmental protection.

Highlighting the concept of intellectual humility, Sinha said no single viewpoint holds absolute truth. He urged individuals to remain open to diverse perspectives and engage in constructive dialogue.
He also pointed out that values such as truth, discipline, non-possession and self-restraint, as taught by Lord Mahavira, can contribute significantly to social cohesion and nation-building.
During the programme, the Lieutenant Governor honoured individuals from various fields for their contributions. The event was attended by public representatives, officials and members of the Jain community.
