The Vice-President election is to be held on 9 September where NDA pick CP Radhakrishnan faces Opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy.
V-P Poll: CP Radhakrishnan vs B Sudershan Reddy
New Delhi: War of words between ruling NDA and Opposition has intensified as the Vice-Presidential poll is getting nearer and nearer. The election is to be held on 9 September, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is gathering support for its candidate CP Radhakrishnan, while the Opposition has made the contest interesting by fielding former Justice B Sudershan Reddy.
Why will the Vice Presidential election be fought between a seasoned politician and a former judge?
CP Radhakrishnan is the ruling NDA canditate for Vice-President, while Justice B Sudershan Reddy is the pick by Opposition.
Presently CP Radhakrishnan is the Governor of Maharashtra. A two-time MP from Coimbatore and former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, Radhakrishnan candidature smells highly political calculations.
To face Radhakrishnan, the Opposition has fieled former Supreme Court judge Justice B Sudershan Reddy. Belonging to an agricultural family Sudarshan Reddy is from Andhra Pradesh (present–day Telangana).
Political corridors are abuzz with the perception that the NDA after much manoeuvring picked CP Radhakrishnan (form Tamil Nadu) as their Vice-President canditate to get the additional support of all those political parties that are mainly based in south.
But the Opposition perhaps acted equally smart to field B Sudershan Reddy (from Telangana) as thier candidate to counter the strategy of ruling NDA.
Now it seems that in this election Tamil Vs Telugu has become one of the major factors which may result in cross voting.
As Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has claimed that 'there is restlessness among NDA MPs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and BJP fears cross voting. He said that BJP, which claims majority, is seeking support from the same parties which were broken earlier.'
The Vice Presidential election is going to be held next month. Given the clear majority of the NDA in Parliament, Radhakrishnan is considered to be the main contender for this election. If he is elected, he will replace the current Vice President and hold one of the highest constitutional posts in the country. This election for the post of Vice President will be an interesting contest between a seasoned politician and a senior former judge, which is being closely watched by the eyes of the entire country.
