Mumbai: Maharashtra remains on high alert as heavy rainfall is expected to continue until July 8, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad. The warning comes amid widespread flooding, landslides, transport disruptions and rising river levels across several districts.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the flood situation and urged people to avoid unnecessary travel as the state braces for more intense rainfall.

Cloudburst-like Spell Likely in Nashik

Addressing a press conference after reviewing the situation at the State Disaster Management Control Room, Fadnavis warned of a possible cloudburst-like event in parts of Nashik on Tuesday.

He said all disaster response agencies have been placed on high alert, with authorities closely monitoring rainfall, river levels and rescue operations.

Work-From-Home Advisory Issued

The State Disaster Management Authority has advised private offices in Mumbai to allow employees to work from home. Non-essential and semi-government offices have also been directed to operate only for a half day in view of the adverse weather conditions.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day due to forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds.

Flights, Trains and Roads Affected

Heavy rain disrupted transport services across the state. Five incoming flights to Mumbai were diverted to other airports, while more than 20 long-distance trains were stranded due to waterlogged tracks on the Western Railway network.

Over 40 train services were either cancelled, delayed, diverted or rescheduled, particularly on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

Meanwhile, a landslip on the Mumbai-Goa Highway disrupted traffic for nearly 12 hours.

Flooding, Landslides Raise Concerns

Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats and Raigad has pushed several rivers, including the Savitri, above danger levels. Waterlogging has also affected parts of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Expressway, forcing temporary closures at some stretches.

Authorities said rescue and restoration work is underway, while residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain vigilant.
