Raipur: Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Dev Sai expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunj in an IED blast carried out by Naxalites on Monday, in Konta area of Sukma district. The CM vowed that Naxalites will have to face the consequences of this "cowardly act, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Sai said, "It is extremely painful, and I pay homage to his sacrifice."
Sai added that some other officials and personnel were also injured in the attack and has directed for their proper treatment.
The Chief Minister asserted that security forces are engaged in a major battle against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh, and they are achieving continuous success.
"Frustrated by the actions of security forces, Naxalites are resorting to such cowardly acts, but they will have to face the consequences," he said.
Sai expressed deep condolences to the family of the martyred ASP and assured that the state government stands with them in this hour of grief, reaffirming that the day is not far when Naxalites will be eradicated from Chhattisgarh. (With inputs from agencies)
An additional superintendent of police Akash Rao Girpunje was killed in a Naxalite-led IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Monday, Bastar Inspector General P. Sundarraj said.
Giripanje was posted at the Konta division in Sukma district, Sundarraj said, adding the IED blast took place near Dondra on the Konta-Errabora road.
Several officials and personnel were also injured in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast, Sundarraj said.
Police said ASP Akash Rao was part of a foot patrol. Police said that the officers were returning after establishing a new camp on the Konta-Gollapally road.
ASP Girpunje was rushed to Konta health centre, where he succumbed to his injuries. The blast also injured Konta's station house officer (SHO) and sub-divisional police officer.
The blast was part of an attempt to disrupt security forces ahead of the CPI (Maoist)-called Bharat Bandh on June 10.
Earlier a villager has been brutally murdered allegedly by Naxalites in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Sunday.
