J&K's economy and tourism in peril
Pahalgam: After the Pahalgam attack, Kashmir's tourism industry has been badly affected. From Shikara operators to hotel and taxi drivers, everyone's earnings have come to a halt, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Sopore's Wular Lake, which is Asia's second-largest freshwater lake, looks completely deserted today. This attack on April 22 has dealt a blow to the tourism of the entire Kashmir.
"Waiting all day, but no tourist comes"
Shikara owner Hasan says - "Earlier we used to earn well, but now no tourist comes even after waiting all day. Kashmir is famous for its hospitality, We want people to come here again." At the same time, people like Manzoor Ahmed, who used to earn 1500 rupees daily earlier, are now barely able to collect 100 rupees. The local people appeal that tourists should come to see the beauty of Kashmir and help them.
Hotels, taxis, and handicrafts – recession hits everyone
Thousands of tourists used to visit Wular Lake and the surrounding areas in April-May, but the number has reduced drastically after the attack. This has directly affected Shikara owners, taxi drivers, hotels, and people associated with local handicrafts. Many people say that if this continues, it will become difficult for them to survive.
Security increased, and mock drills were also conducted
Meanwhile, the government has taken strict measures regarding security. Mock drills were conducted at Dal Lake in Srinagar so that we can be prepared in case of an emergency. The central government has given instructions to conduct civil defense drills across the country. At the same time, security forces have increased vigilance after the ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army in Poonch. Police and CRPF have increased checkposts so that infiltration of terrorists can be stopped.
Pakistan did not stop flourishing terrorism even after getting a huge blow from India in terms of surgical and air strikes.
The Indian government has tried its best to put pressure on Pakistan on international forums. Pakistan's weakening economy is being targeted as an economic pressure.
Apart from increasing pressure on Pakistan on global forums, strong pressure is also being exerted on Pakistan through organizations like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
