Banaskantha (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC) at Bhildi in Gujarat's Banaskantha district. The facility aims to improve indigenous cattle breeds, increase milk production and strengthen India's dairy industry. During his visit, the Prime Minister also interacted with women dairy farmers and discussed issues related to animal husbandry.
Spread across 127 acres, the centre has been developed as an advanced research and breeding facility. It will focus on genetic improvement, modern reproductive technologies and conservation of indigenous cattle breeds, particularly the Kankrej breed native to Gujarat.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, advanced breeding methods could accelerate breed improvement by 10 to 20 times. The initiative is expected to help farmers achieve better milk yields, improve cattle quality and increase their earnings.
During the programme, Modi visited the Embryo Transfer Technology and In Vitro Fertilisation (ET-IVF) Laboratory. He also spoke with women involved in dairy farming about their experiences and challenges.
The inauguration is part of development initiatives worth more than Rs 14,000 crore being launched or dedicated to the nation in Banaskantha. Other projects include two Bio-CNG plants of Banas Dairy, the release of the 24th PM-KISAN instalment worth approximately Rs 19,000 crore and the launch of new railway services.
Projects related to metro expansion, road development and Anganwadi infrastructure are also part of the programme. The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Ekta Nagar later on Friday for Bharat Parv 2026. On October 31, he will participate in Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations marking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 151st birth anniversary.
