New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Kyrgyzstan on Monday. The talks are expected to focus on strengthening India-Russia ties, with defence, energy and trade likely to remain key areas of discussion.

While India has officially confirmed the meeting between PM Modi and Putin, there is no official announcement yet regarding a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, diplomatic circles suggest that the two leaders may hold discussions on the sidelines of the summit.

India-Russia Ties in Focus During Modi-Putin Meeting

The Modi-Putin meeting comes at a time when both countries are looking to expand their strategic cooperation amid changing global dynamics. Discussions are likely to cover areas including defence collaboration, energy partnerships and bilateral trade.

The two leaders may also exchange views on major international developments, including ongoing conflicts and their impact on global stability.

Possible Modi-Xi Meeting Could Address Border Issues

The developments come shortly after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to Russia and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval’s visit to China, where discussions were held on strengthening diplomatic engagement with both countries.

PM Modi’s Kyrgyzstan Visit for SCO Summit

PM Modi reached Bishkek after completing his visit to Uzbekistan, where India and Uzbekistan agreed to upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and set a target of achieving $5 billion in annual trade by 2030.

The SCO Summit marks the organisation’s 25th anniversary. Founded in 2001, the group currently includes 10 member countries, including India, Russia, China, Iran and Belarus.
