New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the remaining stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and the Meerut Metro on Sunday. With this, the entire 82.15-kilometer-long high-speed corridor will be opened to the public. Until now, only 55 kilometers of this route was operational. On Friday, successful trial runs were completed between Begumpul and Sarai Kale Khan and Begumpul and Meerut South.

Delhi to Meerut in 55 Minutes

Saving time has become a paramount necessity in life. The Namo Bharat Corridor will cover the 82-kilometer distance in just 55 minutes, whereas the same journey by private car can take 2.5 to 3.5 hours on normal days. During peak hours, this time can reach 4-5 hours. This project will prove to be a major relief for daily commuters.

An Ambitious Project of NCRTC

This corridor has been constructed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The economic feasibility report cites time savings, fuel savings, and pollution reduction as key benefits. A study by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, also suggests that improved connectivity will encourage people to switch from private vehicles to public transport.

Math of Fare vs. Time

Travelling by private car with four people may result in lower per-person costs. Fuel costs for a petrol car per 82 km are approximately ₹486, and for a CNG car, approximately ₹261. Divided among four passengers, this translates to approximately ₹121 and ₹65 per person, respectively. The potential fare for the Namo Bharat Express from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram is approximately ₹150 for a standard coach and over ₹200 for a premium coach. However, the final fare has not yet been finalized.

Comfort, Safety, and Reliable Travel

Car travel is unpredictable due to traffic jams, accidents, or weather, whereas Namo Bharat Express will operate on a fixed schedule. Passengers will also be able to sit comfortably and work on their mobile phones or laptops while traveling on the train. Experts estimate that saving 30-40 minutes daily could translate into saving hundreds of hours a year.

The Namo Bharat Corridor is poised to be a major game-changer for faster, safer, and more timely travel between Delhi and Meerut.
