CM Fadnavis appeals for peace, curfew imposed
Pune: Tensions between two communities escalated on Friday (August 1) in Yavat village of the Pune district of Maharashtra over an objectionable post on social media, following which the administration imposed a curfew as well as deployed a heavy police force. Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the situation as under control and appealed to the people to maintain peace.
Background of the incident
The tension started when a youth posted an inflammatory status on social media, which angered people of one community, and they took to the streets. After this, the situation worsened, and a clash broke out between the two groups. To control the situation, the police had to resort to lathi charges and tear gas shells.
Statement of CM Fadnavis
The Chief Minister clarified that the incident was not due to any public gathering or event but due to an objectionable posting made by an outsider. He said, "Some people deliberately post such posts to spread tension, but strict action will be taken against them. No one has the right to make inflammatory statements against any religion."

Fadnavis also informed that the area is calm now and people of both the communities are talking. He also stressed the investigation of suspicious video clips, as many times fake or edited videos also cause tension.
Administration's action
CM's appeal
Fadnavis appealed to the people not to take the law into their own hands, saying, "If someone does something wrong, the police will take action against him. We should maintain peace and harmony."
This incident once again highlights the dangers of misuse of social media and spreading misinformation on sensitive issues. The administration has controlled the situation, but strict monitoring and awareness are needed to prevent such incidents in the future.
