Goa: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Goa on October 11 has been cancelled. He was due to pay tribute at the Chieftains Memorial in Cuncolim before addressing a public meeting attended by local residents and party workers.
No official explanation for the cancellation was immediately available. However, Congress leaders said the decision was taken to allow Gandhi to remain actively involved in the Opposition’s ongoing protest programme.
According to the original schedule, Gandhi was to reach the Chieftains Memorial in Cuncolim at 4.15 pm on October 11 to pay tribute. The visit was expected to be a key part of his Goa itinerary.
He was also scheduled to attend other local engagements. Congress leaders and workers in the state had been preparing for the visit, but the cancellation has left the party’s next steps and any possible rescheduling unclear.

Gandhi was due to address a public meeting near the Cuncolim bus stand at 4.30 pm. The gathering was intended to give him an opportunity to interact with local residents and Congress workers.
The meeting was also expected to draw political attention, with party supporters anticipating a message from the Congress leader. With the visit cancelled, the planned public meeting will not take place as scheduled.
The cancellation comes as the INDIA bloc steps up protests in Delhi and other states, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raising concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Gandhi has been at the forefront of the demonstrations, including the Opposition’s march towards the Election Commission. Congress leaders said the Goa visit was cancelled to enable him to participate more actively in the ongoing protests.
The Congress has maintained that electoral transparency and democratic integrity remain key concerns for the Opposition. The party’s national leadership is currently focusing on the protests in Delhi and elsewhere as the INDIA bloc continues its campaign over the functioning of the Election Commission and the revision of electoral rolls.
