Five pilgrims tragically killed in Jodhpur

Jaipur: At least 5 pilgrims were killed and 14 others injured after a tragic road accident occurred on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer National Highway early Sunday morning.

A tempo carrying pilgrims on their way to Ramdevra collided with a speeding truck in the Balesar police station area.

Five pilgrims were killed in the horrific collision, while 14 others, including women and children, were seriously injured.

All the injured are being treated at MDM Hospital, Jodhpur. Both the deceased and injured are believed to be residents of Sabarkantha district in Gujarat.

The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Khari Beri village on National Highway 125. Balesar Police Station Officer Mool Singh Bhati stated that the truck, loaded with sacks of millet, lost control at high speed and collided with an oncoming tempo.

The impact was so severe that the front portion of the tempo was completely shattered, and the truck also overturned.

Mahendra, who was sitting in the front seat of the tempo, explained that all the devotees had set out from Gujarat's Sabarkantha district to visit Ramdevra. Three devotees died on the spot after the accident, while two succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment in Jodhpur.

Immediately after the accident, passing motorists stopped their vehicles to help the injured and informed the police and ambulance. Three ambulances from Balesar, Agolai, and the highway service arrived immediately.

The injured were first taken to the Balesar CHC, where, after first aid, all were referred to Jodhpur. The police have deposited the bodies of the deceased in the Balesar CHC mortuary and have begun searching for the truck driver.

Following the accident, there was chaos at the scene, and nearby motorists also participated in the rescue effort. The investigation into the accident is currently underway.
