      Red Alert issued in Sikkim as heavy snowfall hits Indo-China border

      Due to the fresh heavy snowfall in the higher regions of the Indo-China border areas, including the Nathula Pass area, on Friday, the temperature across Sikkim dipped down sharply to sub-zero levels in many high-altitude areas. As a result traffic movement along some mountain routes has been disrupted throwing normal life out of gear.

      The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Sikkim with a warning of continued sharp weather conditions over the next 24 hours. Besides since early morning, heavy to very heavy snowfall has been there in and around Nathula, Kupup, and Tsomgo (Changu) Lake areas.

      Stray Dog Menace: Supreme Court rejects Chief Secretaries’ request for virtual appearance

      The Supreme Court on Friday refused to permit Chief Secretaries of States and Union Territories (UTs) to appear before it through video conferencing instead of physical appearance. The Top Court rejected the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to seeking exemption of physical appearance of Chief Secretaries in the stray dog menace case.

      The Apex Court asked the Chief Secretaries to be present in the Court physically to explain their non-compliance with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, and their failure to curb the stray dog menace.
