New Delhi: The owner of the Satya Niketan paying guest (PG) accommodation, Hariram Bansal, has been arrested from Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi in connection with the deadly building collapse that claimed six lives.
Police officials said Bansal was named as an accused in the FIR registered after the five-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday afternoon.
The building, which was being used as a boys’ PG and housed several Delhi University students, came crashing down during renovation work. Following the incident, Delhi Police formed multiple teams to trace the owner and also issued a lookout notice.

The FIR against Hariram Bansal and others was registered at South Campus police station under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, negligent conduct during construction or repair work, and acts endangering life or personal safety.
Investigators are examining whether negligence during renovation work contributed to the collapse.
The collapse triggered a massive rescue operation involving the Delhi Fire Service, NDRF, Delhi Police and other agencies. Several people were rescued from the debris, but six victims lost their lives in the tragedy.
Officials are also investigating reports of construction activity in the basement and whether structural damage, excavation or water accumulation played a role in weakening the building.
Delhi authorities have launched an investigation into possible violations related to building safety and permissions. The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended five South Zone officials amid questions over building safety monitoring.
Authorities are also inspecting other potentially unsafe and unauthorised structures in the area as the investigation into the Satya Niketan collapse continues.
