New Delhi: A major security incident was narrowly averted in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday. The Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who hails from the Coimbatore region and is known as a “Karmayogi” and “Kongu Man of the Soil,” was on his first visit to his home constituency. During this visit, a serious security lapse occurred in his convoy.
Two Youths on a Scooter Enter Vice President’s Convoy
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, October 28, when the vice president’s convoy was passing through the Heritage Town Hall area.
This was the same location where he was concluding his program after paying tribute at the first statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Suddenly, two youths on a scooter (TN 66 AQ 4740) sped into the convoy from the opposite direction.

Police tried to stop them, but the two youths quickly escaped. For a brief period, the entire area was thrown into chaos and panic.
Police and Security Agencies in a Frenzy
Following the incident, BJP workers strongly protested against the police’s security lapse and blocked the road. They expressed their anger over the negligence of the police department and demanded immediate action.
Senior police officers who arrived at the scene calmed the crowd and stated that a special team had been formed to identify and apprehend the two youths on the scooter.
The incident caused a temporary disruption to the vice president’s program, but the situation was soon brought under control.
BJP Leaders’ Reaction
Following the incident, BJP National Women’s President and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan issued a strong statement. She said that this was a serious security lapse and should be investigated immediately.
She demanded that the administration take strict action against the responsible officers if any laxity in security is found at any level. She also urged the police to further strengthen security arrangements during VIP visits to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
