CP Radhakrishnan receives warm welcome at Coimbatore International Airport
Chennai: The Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, arrived in Coimbatore on Tuesday, for the first time since assuming office.
It was his maiden visit to Tamil Nadu as Vice President.
The visit marks an important milestone as the senior constitutional dignitary returns to his home state for a three-day tour of Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Madurai.
Radhakrishnan was warmly welcomed at the Coimbatore International Airport by senior BJP leaders, district officials, and a large crowd of BJP workers and local residents.
Arriving by a special flight at 9:40 am, he went to the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex to receive a felicitation from the Coimbatore Citizens' Forum. At 2:30 pm, the Vice President paid homage to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Coimbatore Corporation Complex.
Later, he attended the centenary celebrations of spiritual leader Shanthalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, a prestigious cultural event, at the Perur Math.
Radhakrishnan traveled by road to Tirupur, where he paid floral tributes to the statues of freedom fighter Kumaran and Mahatma Gandhi.
Tight security arrangements were made during the Vice President's visit, with approximately 1,900 police personnel deployed in Coimbatore alone.
The administration banned drone flights over the city during his stay and implemented traffic changes in Tirupur to ensure smooth traffic flow. These measures included diverting heavy vehicles to designated alternative routes and tightening police checks at various locations in the city, including lodges and hotels.
On Wednesday, after the felicitation ceremony in Tirupur, the Vice President planned to return to Coimbatore by road and later fly to Madurai. His visit to Madurai also included a visit to the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple.
What was the connection of CP Radhakrishnan with Coimbatore, a son of the soil? Coimbatore is his hometown and a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore. He has a deep affection for Coimbatore and enjoyed the opportunity to meet old friends. Forgoing protocol, he walked a kilometer from the airport to greet people from his Kongu region.
