New Delhi: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, it has been decided to have a comprehensive discussion in Parliament on "Operation Sindoor," carried out by the Indian Army on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Lok Sabha will have a discussion for 16 hours, while the Rajya Sabha will have a 9-hour-long debate on this issue. However, it is not decided on which day this discussion will start, but a consensus has been reached on this in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee.
The opposition says that this discussion should start this week and Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself should answer it. But according to sources, the government has argued that the Prime Minister will be on a foreign tour this week, so discussion in his presence is possible only next week.
Opposition parties expressed their displeasure over this and said that this debate is not mentioned in the government agenda for this week. They also demanded that the presence of the Home Minister and the Defense Minister should also be mandatory in the House. Along with this, the opposition also demanded discussion on issues like voter list revision in Bihar and the situation in Manipur.
Uproar on the first day of the session
On the very first day (Monday) of the beginning of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, there was a lot of uproar in the Lok Sabha. Opposition members demanded a debate on the Pahalgam attack, Trump's mediation comments, and Bihar's SIR process, due to which the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned thrice—first till 12 noon, then till 2 pm, and finally till 4 pm.
Statement of Mallikarjun Kharge in Rajya Sabha
In Rajya Sabha, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the government and said that the terrorists of the Pahalgam attack have neither been caught nor killed till now. He also mentioned the intelligence failure of Jammu and Kashmir and Donald Trump's claims of stopping the war between India and Pakistan. Kharge said that the government should answer all these questions.
In response, Union Minister JP Nadda said that the message should not be that the government is avoiding discussion on Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor. He clarified that the government is ready to discuss every issue.
