Kolkata: Two MPs from West Bengal – Samik Bhattacharya of the BJP and Yusuf Pathan of the Trinamool Congress – will be among the 51 political leaders, parliamentarians, and former ministers from across party lines who will be part of seven delegations travelling to world capitals.

These delegations aim to present India’s firm stance against terrorism in light of Operation Sindoor.

According to a list released by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Bhattacharya will be one of the eight members of the team led by senior BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad. This delegation is set to visit the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy, and Denmark, with their departure scheduled for May 23.

Team Members

The other members in this team are Daggubatti Purandeswari (BJP), Priyanka Chaturvedi (SS-UBT), Ghulam Nabi Khatana (nominated), Amar Singh (Congress), former Union minister M J Akbar and former diplomat Pankaj Saran.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan is among the nine members of a delegation led by JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, which will travel to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Singapore. The delegation is scheduled to depart on May 21.

The other members in this team are Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), Brij Lal (BJP), John Brittas (CPI-M), Pradan Barua (BJP), Hemang Joshi (BJP), former minister Khurshid and former diplomat Mohan Kumar.

Reacting on his X handle, BJP, Rajya Sabha MP, Bhattacharya wrote, “Zero tolerance towards terrorism. Starting May 23, I, along with other dignitaries, will visit key nations to spread the word to stand united against terrorism.”

When asked about it, Bhattacharya said, “All political parties stood united with the government. On such a sensitive issue, no political divide is expected. The government selects individuals it deems appropriate for the task. It follows its own modus operandi and will continue to operate accordingly.”

Trinamool Congress Statement

However, though there was no reaction available from Pathan, sources in the Trinamool Congress said that the party will take the final call after receiving formal communication from the central government.

Sources close to the development said that Pathan, who got a call from Rijiju on Saturday night, said that he would inform that party and then take the decision.

The delegations, led by Baijayant Panda and Ravi Shankar Prasad (both from the BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Kanimozhi (DMK), and Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), will visit a total of 32 countries along with the EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

Each delegation consists of seven to eight political leaders and is supported by former diplomats. Among the 51 political leaders participating, 31 belong to the ruling NDA, while the remaining 20 represent non-NDA parties.
