New Delhi: Heavy snowfall in the mountains and the activation of a new Western Disturbance have changed the weather patterns across North India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy snowfall is expected in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh.

Where will it rain?
According to the Meteorological Department, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is forming at the tropospheric level over the lower reaches of the important South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Its effects may be seen in the southern states. A rain alert has been issued for four states over the next two days. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday (December 16, 2025).
Fog to cause problems in more than 10 cities across the country
Dense fog has gripped several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. The fog and cold have given people double trouble. The IMD has issued a dense fog warning for Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Agra, and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
This will significantly reduce visibility. Similarly, a dense fog warning has been issued for Patna, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga in Bihar, which borders Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, dense fog will prevail in Shimla, the capital of the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, and Dehradun, Nainital, and Chamoli in Uttarakhand on Tuesday (December 16, 2025).
Where will the severe cold be felt? While night temperatures have risen in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Vidarbha, Bihar, Assam, and parts of West Bengal along the Ganges, the ongoing snowfall in the mountains has intensified the cold in several states. Surprisingly, minimum temperatures increased by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in many areas of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat during the last 24 hours.
Western Disturbance to Arrive
A new and weak Western Disturbance is expected to enter the Western Himalayan region from the night of December 17, 2025. Under its influence, light rain or snowfall is likely at some places in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir between December 18 and 21. Meanwhile, with the increase in cold, the effect of fog is now becoming rapidly visible in Uttar Pradesh. In Bihar, the cold spell will continue for the next 72 hours. The cold will be felt more intensely during the morning and night.
Weather Forecast for Delhi
Fog continued to trouble people in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning. The minimum temperature in Delhi on Tuesday is expected to be around 9 to 11 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature could range between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius. The wind speed is likely to increase to about 25 kilometers per hour from the northwest direction in the afternoon. Air pollution will remain a concern.
