Severe Cold and Snowfall Hit Multiple States
New Delhi: The weather has continued to deteriorate in many parts of the country. Heavy snowfall in the hilly states has disrupted road and air traffic, while the harsh cold in the plains has broken records. The weather has once again added to people's hardships on January 27th.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds gusting up to 30 to 40 kmph in Delhi-NCR in the past few days have significantly reduced air pollution. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on January 27th is expected to be 19 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 9 degrees Celsius.
However, light to moderate fog is expected in the mornings between January 28th and 30th. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 18-19 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 9-12 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in some parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This rain will be caused by easterly winds blowing from the Comorin Sea region towards the northern Kerala coast.
However, the weather in the state is expected to remain mostly dry from January 28th to 31st. From January 29th, the minimum temperature may drop by 3 degrees below normal, increasing the cold in the morning.
Due to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is closed, and snow removal work is ongoing at the airport. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for light to moderate rain and snowfall in many areas, with heavy rain and snowfall in some places until January 27th.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 1.6 degrees, Gulmarg minus 10.2 degrees, and Pahalgam minus 6.2 degrees. Farmers have been advised to suspend farming until January 28th.
Heavy snowfall in many areas of Uttarakhand, including Uttarkashi, has covered the mountains in a white blanket. JCBs and snow-cutters have been deployed to clear snow from the roads.
While tourists are enjoying the snowy scenery, locals are facing power and water problems due to the closure of more than 20 roads.
Cold wave continues to grip many parts of Rajasthan. Minimum temperatures in some areas reached 0.3 degrees Celsius, setting a new record for the cold.
Overall, the weather continues to wreak havoc across the country, and there is little hope of relief from the cold and fog in the coming days.
