Mathura News: A video of Vrindavan saint Premanand Ji Maharaj has recently taken social media by storm. In this 14-second clip, he can be heard saying that "only four out of 100 girls are pure." However, this video has been made viral by cutting it out of context. Watching the full video, it is known that he said this while expressing concern over the increasing immoral conduct in modern society and the weakening form of the institution of marriage.
How did the controversy start?
This whole episode started with a question from a woman in which she asked whether children marry of their own choice or the choice of their parents; the results are not good in either situation. In response to this, the saint cited the immorality spreading in the society as the main reason. He said that nowadays there is a lack of purity in the character of the youth, which is affecting married life.
Immoral conduct of youth
The saint explained that earlier, women lived in veils and valued purity, but today's youth do not show this decency in their dress and behavior. He called multiple relationships a threat to society and said that when a boy or a girl forms relationships with multiple partners, it becomes difficult for them to be happy with a single life partner.
Saint Premanand also rejected western practices like "live-in relationships" in modern society and emphasized the purity of Indian culture. He gave examples of women giving up their lives to protect their purity during the Mughal period and said that today this purity is disappearing from our society.
What does he mean?
Although some of his statements may be considered extreme, his basic message is to express concern over the decline of moral values in society. He called upon the youth to avoid premarital relationships and lead a married life with purity. The saint said that even if a youth has made a mistake, he should correct himself after marriage.
It is clear from this entire episode that whatever Sant Premanand Ji Maharaj said reflects his concern over the growing immorality and erosion of family values in modern society. Although some of his words could be construed as anti-feminist, his basic intention seems to be to send a message to the society to return to morality.
