Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released its third list of 19 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, fielding the mother of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim from the Panihati constituency.
Ratna Debnath, whose daughter was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College, will contest on a BJP ticket. She had earlier announced her decision to enter politics to seek justice for her daughter, stating she would contest under the party’s “Lotus” symbol. The latest list formally confirms her candidature.
The party’s third list also includes some notable names, such as retired NSG commando and intelligence officer Dipanjan Chakraborty, who has been fielded from Uttarpara.

As per the list, Rathindra Nath Bose has been nominated from Cooch Behar Dakshin, Dinesh Sarkar from Raiganj, Chittranjit Roy from Islampur, and Haripada from Hemtabad. Other candidates include Amalan Bhaduri (English Bazar), Swapan Das (Shantipur), and Biplab Mondal (Howrah Central).
Additionally, Arun Kumar Das has been fielded from Singur, Dipanjan Kumar Guha from Chandannagar, Subir Nag from Chunchura, and Madhumita Ghosh from Haripal.

The list further includes Hare Krishna Bera (Tamluk), Shankar Guchhait (Medinipur), Krishna Ghosh (Katwa), Krishna Kant Saha (Sainthia), Anil Saha (Nalhati), and Pranakrishna Tapadar (Purbasthali Dakshin).
The announcement signals BJP’s continued push to strengthen its electoral presence in West Bengal, with a mix of political, professional, and high-profile candidates ahead of the crucial state elections.
