New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal strongly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party after seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs exited the party.

Reacting to the development, he said the move amounted to a betrayal of the people of Punjab, stating, “BJP has once again betrayed Punjabis,” in a post on X.  His remarks came after Raghav Chadha and six other MPs announced their decision to leave AAP and join the BJP, marking a significant political shift.

Sanjay Singh Hits Back

AAP leader Sanjay Singh also responded sharply, calling the decision of the seven MPs a betrayal of public trust. He said the people of Punjab would not forgive those who left the party after being given key positions.

Singh expressed disappointment over the development, stating that the move undermines the mandate given to the party by voters.

Allegations of Political Pressure

During a press conference, Singh alleged that central agencies were being used to target AAP leaders. He claimed that institutions such as the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation were being misused in a political context.

He further defended the performance of the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying it continues to work effectively for the people.

Criticism of Defecting Leaders

Singh also criticised the leaders who left the party, including Chadha and others, stating that they had risen within AAP before choosing to exit. He said the party had given them opportunities to serve as public representatives, making their departure more significant.

The comments reflect growing tensions within AAP following the sudden political shift.

The exit of seven MPs is being seen as a major setback for AAP, particularly in the Rajya Sabha. The development could alter parliamentary dynamics and strengthen the BJP’s position in the Upper House.
