BJP slams Rahul Gandhi over ‘traitor’ remark against PM Modi, Amit Shah (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi after he referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as “traitors” during a public rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli.
The remarks triggered a strong political response, with BJP leaders accusing Rahul Gandhi of crossing the boundaries of political decorum and using inflammatory language.
Responding to the Congress leader’s comments, BJP president Natin Nabin described the statement as “deeply unfortunate” and claimed repeated electoral setbacks were now reflecting in Rahul Gandhi’s conduct and temperament.

Nabin said political discourse in India has traditionally been rooted in mutual respect and social harmony, adding that such remarks weaken healthy democratic debate.
He further questioned Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the government, asking whether efforts against Naxalism, protection of national borders and enhancing India’s global standing could be described as acts of “treason.”
During his address in Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Modi government was weakening constitutional institutions and harming the country’s democratic structure.
He accused the ruling dispensation of favouring select industrialists, undermining public institutions and damaging the economy through its policies. Gandhi also claimed that constitutional values such as “one person, one vote” were under threat.
The Congress leader further alleged that electoral rolls were being manipulated and accused the government of attempting to weaken democratic safeguards.

Rahul Gandhi also criticised the Centre over issues such as privatisation, changes in public sector functioning and the alleged ideological influence in educational institutions.
He claimed that important national institutions were being reshaped politically, while welfare-oriented programmes and employment opportunities were being weakened.
The exchange marks another escalation in the ongoing political battle between the BJP and Congress ahead of upcoming elections. With both parties sharpening their attacks, political rhetoric is expected to intensify further in the coming months.
