New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday reacted to the decision of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to enter the Rajya Sabha, describing the move as “noteworthy” given that it comes only three months after the state elections.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Abdullah said the political development has attracted attention due to its timing. According to him, the decision marks an important shift in Bihar’s political landscape.

Acknowledges Nitish Kumar’s Long Tenure

During his remarks, Abdullah highlighted Nitish Kumar’s long political career and his extended tenure as Chief Minister of Bihar. He noted that Kumar has served the state for many years and is widely regarded as one of the longest-serving chief ministers in the country.

Abdullah said it was natural in politics for leadership roles to change over time, adding that every political tenure eventually reaches a transition point.

‘Primarily a Bihar Matter’

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister also emphasised that the issue mainly concerns the political dynamics within Bihar and the parties that form the state’s ruling alliance. However, he pointed out that Nitish Kumar had previously been associated with the opposition INDIA Bloc, where several regional parties had worked together.

Abdullah remarked that Kumar’s decision to shift to the Rajya Sabha soon after the elections was therefore particularly noteworthy.

Best Wishes for Future Role

While commenting on the development, Abdullah also acknowledged the contributions made by Nitish Kumar during his years in office. He said the Bihar leader had served the people of the state for a long time and deserved recognition for his public service.
