During the meeting, the Karnataka delegation highlighted the urgent need to accelerate approvals for projects designed to improve irrigation coverage, enhance water storage capacity, and ensure reliable drinking water supply across the state.
The state government stressed that timely execution of these initiatives would play a critical role in addressing recurring water shortages and improving agricultural productivity.
A key focus of the discussions was the welfare of farmers, many of whom continue to face challenges due to irregular rainfall and drought-like conditions in several regions.
Shivakumar emphasised that strengthening irrigation systems is essential for boosting farm incomes, improving crop security, and reducing dependence on unpredictable monsoon patterns. The proposed projects are expected to benefit millions of farmers and rural households.
The Karnataka government also underscored the importance of expanding drinking water infrastructure to meet the growing needs of urban and rural populations.
Officials pointed out that improved water management and storage facilities would help ensure a stable supply of potable water, particularly in regions vulnerable to seasonal shortages.
The Chief Minister urged the Union Jal Shakti Ministry to fast-track clearances and provide the necessary administrative and financial support for pending proposals.
According to officials, the projects are aimed at creating long-term solutions for water conservation, irrigation expansion, and drought mitigation while contributing to sustainable development across Karnataka.
The meeting reflected Karnataka's efforts to work closely with the Centre on critical water-related challenges. With water security emerging as a major development priority, the state hopes that early approvals will pave the way for faster implementation of projects that can deliver lasting benefits to agriculture, industry, and households.
The discussions are expected to shape the future course of several major water infrastructure initiatives in Karnataka.
