New Delhi: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning his commitment to the Constitution and accusing the Congress of acting in accordance with the wishes of the Gandhi family.

Addressing a party march in Delhi, Nabin said democracy was secure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He also warned that the Congress would face further decline if its leaders continued to follow Rahul Gandhi’s statements.

“Actually, he doesn't care about the Constitution,” Nabin said, referring to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, who frequently carries a copy of the Constitution.

“If you keep following Rahul Baba’s words, the Congress will be finished,” he said.

Nabin says democracy is safe under Modi

Nabin also asserted that Modi would return to the Red Fort after the 2029 elections, indicating his confidence in the Prime Minister’s political future.

The BJP president was speaking at the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) padyatra. The march began near Shri Jain Lal Mandir, close to the Red Fort, and proceeded towards Town Hall Chowk in Chandni Chowk.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, BJP Delhi president Harsh Malhotra and Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma were also present.

“Democracy is in safe hands. The trust of democracy in public lies in PM Modi. If democracy is in the hands of PM Narendra Modi, then democracy is absolutely safe,” he said.

Nabin said Modi regarded the country’s 140 crore people as his family, contrasting this with what he described as the Congress’s dependence on the Gandhi family. He alleged that Congress leaders accepted Rahul Gandhi’s statements and his family’s wishes without question, contributing to the party’s decline.

Nabin accuses Opposition of protecting ‘ghost voter lists’

The BJP president also targeted the Opposition over electoral rolls, accusing it of wanting lists containing the names of deceased voters and duplicate entries to remain unchanged.

“There are voters who have died but whose names remain on the electoral rolls. There are also people whose names appear in the voter lists at two places. There are crores of such voters whose names are registered more than once, while the whereabouts of many others cannot be traced. This is what is called a ‘ghost voter list’,” he said.

Nabin alleged that such electoral rolls served the Opposition’s political interests and claimed that the BJP wanted to clean up the system. He further said voters had repeatedly rejected such elements through elections.

“The people of this country keep cleansing the system of such elements. Yet, even after this, they do not learn. Instead of learning from electoral defeats, they vent their frustration,” Nabin said.

He maintained that the BJP’s padyatra was aimed at opposing what the party described as political anarchy and defending democratic values.

“As this ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign begins today, we want to make it clear that there is no place for anarchy in this country,” he said.

Emergency reference and criticism of family-led politics

Nabin also criticised the Congress leadership over what he described as attempts to impose one family’s wishes on the country. Referring to the Emergency, he argued that India’s democratic foundations had remained strong despite the imposition of Emergency rule.

“To those so-called Congress leader who try to turn one family's rules into the law of the country and impose the family's wishes as national law, I want to make it clear that the roots of Indian democracy are so strong that you have already experienced this, even after imposing the Emergency,” he said.

Explaining the BJP’s approach to political mobilisation, Nabin said party workers continued to take their concerns to the streets regardless of whether the party was in power or in opposition. He described this willingness to mobilise as a defining characteristic of BJP workers.
