New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the newly announced India-US trade agreement, alleging that India’s national interests had been compromised. His remarks came shortly after the Lok Sabha was adjourned following heated exchanges between the opposition and ruling party members.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi said the Prime Minister had “sold the country” under pressure, claiming that the deal undermined the hard work of Indian citizens.

“Narendra Modi has sold your hard work in this trade deal because he is compromised,” Gandhi alleged, adding that the agreement reflected fear rather than confidence. His comments followed repeated disruptions in the House during his speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned after BJP-led NDA members objected to Gandhi’s remarks, leading to loud protests from both sides.

The confrontation resurfaced when Gandhi attempted to raise concerns over India–China border issues by referring to a magazine article that quoted from an unpublished memoir of former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane. The book has not yet received government clearance for publication.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that parliamentary rules do not allow references to unpublished material. When Gandhi sought permission to paraphrase the contents instead, the chair ruled against it, stating the issue had already been settled.
The situation escalated when Congress MPs protested the ruling, arguing that Gandhi was speaking on matters of national security. During the exchange, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal used the word “yaar”, prompting a sharp reaction from the chair, who objected to its use in the House.
The remark led to further disorder, with members shouting across the aisle, eventually forcing the adjournment of proceedings.

Gandhi also referred to unreleased documents linked to the Epstein case, claiming they added to the pressure influencing India’s decision-making on the trade deal.
The Congress leader further alleged that he was not allowed to speak freely on the President’s address, calling it unprecedented for a Leader of Opposition. The developments added to the already tense atmosphere in Parliament, with political tempers flaring as the Budget Session continues amid debates over trade, national security and parliamentary conduct.
