‘Remove Gyanesh Kumar’: Mamata Banerjee’s Big Demand at INDIA Bloc Meet Over SIR Row

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee raised the issue of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar during the INDIA bloc meeting in Delhi and demanded his removal, intensifying the opposition’s attack over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Mamata, who attended the meeting along with TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, alleged concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and called for accountability. She said the opposition would launch a larger movement if its demands were not addressed.

Mamata’s Demand Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

During the INDIA bloc meeting, Mamata Banerjee reportedly pushed for action against Gyanesh Kumar, making the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner one of the key issues discussed by opposition leaders.

The demand comes amid a wider opposition campaign against the Election Commission over the SIR exercise and voter list revisions. Several INDIA bloc parties have raised concerns regarding transparency in the electoral roll process.

Opposition’s Joint Strategy Over SIR Row

The INDIA bloc meeting focused on finalising a joint strategy on electoral issues, including the SIR process and the functioning of the Election Commission. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also presented six demands during the meeting, including transparency in voter list revisions, protection of voters’ rights and voting through ballot papers instead of EVMs.

The opposition parties have discussed possible protests and further political action over their concerns related to the electoral process.

TMC Raises Bengal Concerns

Mamata Banerjee also highlighted concerns related to West Bengal and alleged that the electoral process needed greater scrutiny. The issue has become a major point of confrontation between opposition parties and the Election Commission.

The Election Commission has maintained that electoral roll revision exercises are carried out according to constitutional provisions and established procedures.

INDIA Bloc Faces Electoral Battle Ahead

With parties like Congress, TMC and other opposition groups raising the CEC issue, the INDIA bloc is attempting to build a coordinated position on electoral reforms and voter list concerns.

The latest developments have brought Gyanesh Kumar, SIR and Election Commission accountability to the centre of the opposition’s political strategy.
