Chennai: Less than two weeks after forming his government, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is confronting a major political challenge as the CPI(M) has warned it may withdraw support from his administration if TVK aligns with the AIADMK or any of its factions.

CPI(M) Issues Stark Warning

CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam stated, “Our support to the TVK was extended to prevent unnecessary elections, block the BJP from indirectly imposing President’s Rule, and honor the public mandate, which rejected both the DMK and AIADMK.

Any attempt to include AIADMK leaders in the government would violate this mandate and betray public trust.”

Shanmugam emphasized that the Left parties and the VCK offered external support with the expectation of a government reflecting the people’s preference, warning that support could be reconsidered if TVK compromises its stance.

CM Vijay Weighs Cabinet Options Amid Political Pressure

TVK, with 108 seats, currently governs with the backing of the Congress, Left parties, VCK, and IUML. To strengthen his administration, CM Vijay is reportedly considering inducting 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs who crossed over during the confidence motion.

While this move could help stabilize the government, the CPI(M) warning raises the risk of other supporting parties withdrawing their backing, potentially destabilizing the administration.

Sources suggest that even if TVK secures the rebel AIADMK MLAs and one AMMK MLA, the public perception of compromising election promises could cast a shadow over the new government.

The TVK core team is reportedly engaged in delicate negotiations to navigate the crisis without alienating key allies or undermining public trust.
