New Delhi: The holy month of Sawan is nearing its end, many big festivals come in Sawan, one of which is Nag Panchami. It is celebrated every year on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan. This time Nag Panchami is being celebrated on July 29.

The auspicious muhurat of Nag Panchami will be celebrated on 29th July 2025, starting at 11.24 pm on 28th July and ending at 12.46 am on 30th July. The auspicious time of worship for Nag Panchami will be from 05.41 am to 08.23 am on July 29.

Why is Nag Panchami celebrated?

According to the Bhavishya Purana, Sumantu Muni informed the Satanic king about the legend of Nag Panchami. It is believed that the festival is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. There is a law to bathe the Nagas with cow's milk on the Panchami Tithi, it is said that by doing this, Nagaraj Abhay gives charity to the person's family.

In the Mahabharata, there is a story of the Nag Yagna of Janmejaya, according to which during the Nag Yagna of Janmejaya, large wicked Nagas began to burn in the fire pit, at that time a Brahmin named Astik had stopped the snake Yagna and saved the Nagas. After this, Nag Panchami began to be celebrated.

The significance of Nag Panchami is believed that worshipping Nagas on this day eliminates the effects of Kalasarpa Dosha present in the horoscope. Along with this, happiness and prosperity remain in the house.

Nag Panchami Puja Vidhi

  • First of all, take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.
  • For worship, spread a red cloth on a wooden stand and place the idol of the snake deity on it. If there is no idol, you can also worship by making a snake out of flour/clay.
  • Offer milk, water, turmeric, rice, flowers, roli and sweets to the snake deity.
