Assembly Poll Schedule for 4 States and Puducherry Likely Next Week

The Election Commission (EC) has a busy schedule in Kerala on Friday, reviewing the state’s preparedness for the upcoming Assembly elections. Led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, review meetings are being held with state officials as well as with a cross-section of voters to ensure that Kerala is fully geared up for the polls. Sources say that the poll schedule for four states and a Union Territory would be announced anytime next week.

Thiruvananthapuram/New Delhi: A delegation of the EC led by CEC Gyanesh Kumar on Friday had a hectic day in Kerala, holding meetings with state officials and other stakeholders over poll preparedness in the state. The review meetings will continue on Saturday as well.

These include meetings with registered political parties as well as with heads of nodal agencies, police officials, and district electoral officers, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

EC Team to Visit West Bengal Next

The EC will visit West Bengal on March 9 and 10 to review poll preparedness in the state. Sources said that the schedule for Assembly polls in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry could be announced next week.

Earlier Reviews Completed in Other States

The Commission led by CEC Gyanesh Kumar has already visited Tamil Nadu, Assam and the Union Territory of Puducherry for review meetings. It may be recalled that SIR (Special Intensive Revision) has already been conducted in these states and the final voter lists have been published.

Assembly Terms Ending Soon

The term of West Bengal’s Assembly ends on May 7, Tamil Nadu’s on May 10, Assam’s on May 20, Kerala’s on May 23, and Puducherry’s on June 15.
