Complaint Filed Against BJP Tamil Nadu Chief For Passing Derogatory Remark over On Vijay’s Mother

Chennai: A compliant has been filed against the BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagendran over his remark on Chief Minister Vijay’s mother during a public event in Tamil Nadu. The police complaint has sought that the police preserve digital evidence, investigate the remarks as per legal terms, and initiate appropriate criminal proceedings for defamation and public misconduct.

The complaint is filed after a political row triggered by BJP state president Nagendran’s remark on Saturday, 15 August 26 at party state headquarters, Kamalalayam in Chennai, where he took a swipe at actor-turned-politician Vijay over his earlier remark “Kutti Kathai” (short story) targeting DMK president and former CM MK Stalin.

While addressing a party event, Nagendran mocked CM’s repeated references to “father” in the Assembly, saying that those wanting to know “where their father is” should ask their mother at home instead of looking for an answer in the Assembly.

The police complaint has described the BJP leader’s remark regarding Vijay and his mother as derogatory and sought legal action against him. The complaint further urged the police to examine and seize the audio and video recordings of the event as part of the proceedings.

The controversy goes back to Vijay’s earlier remark in the state Assembly following the DMK’s defeat in the April 2026 Assembly election.

Former BJP state president K Annamalai has also criticised the remark made by Nagendra; he said that he had crossed the limits of political civility.

Annamalai further said that questioning the government and engaging in political disagreements were legitimate aspects of democratic discourse, but personal attacks around a leader’s family, specifically their mother, are unacceptable.

He explained such remarks as a regressive and “third-rate” form of politics and said such conduct should not be encouraged among the younger generation.
