EC orders top-level bureaucratic reshuffle in TN (Internet)
Chennai: In a decisive step to ensure smooth and impartial conduct of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the Election Commission has ordered a major reshuffle of senior administrative and police officials in the state.
After reviewing the poll preparedness, the Commission has appointed Thiru M Sai Kumar (IAS 1990) as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu. Simultaneously, Dr Sandeep Mittal (IPS 1995) has been posted as the Director General of Police (Armed Police & Vigilance and Anti-Corruption).

Immediate Implementation with Strict Deadline
The Commission has directed that these appointments be implemented with immediate effect. The state government has been asked to submit a compliance report confirming that both officers have assumed charge by 6:00 PM on April 8, 2026.

Additionally, in a move aimed at maintaining neutrality during the election process, the Commission has clearly stated that officers who have been transferred out will not be assigned to any election-related duties until the completion of the polls.
