The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss seeking a ban on the party’s ‘mango’ election symbol. The bench headed by Justice Surya Kant deferred the case after a request from Ramadoss’ counsel for more time.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Monday heard an appeal filed by S. Ramadoss seeking a ban on the ‘mango’ election symbol linked to the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
The matter came up before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, who briefly examined the submissions made by both sides before adjourning the case.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice sought clarification on the core issue involved in the case, asking whether the dispute was essentially about ownership of the ‘mango’ symbol associated with the party.
The court was hearing the appeal filed by Ramadoss challenging developments related to the party symbol and leadership recognition.
Senior advocate Meenakshi Arora, appearing for Anbumani Ramadoss, argued that the matter had already been addressed earlier. She submitted that the Election Commission of India had provided detailed clarification before the Delhi High Court regarding the issue.

According to her submissions, documents placed on record earlier confirmed that the party structure continues under Anbumani Ramadoss, who has also been recognised as the party leader. Arora further said several attempts had been made to resolve the dispute amicably with Ramadoss, but those efforts did not succeed.
Counsel appearing for Ramadoss requested the court to postpone the hearing briefly, stating that a senior advocate needed to present arguments in the case.
Responding to the request, Chief Justice Surya Kant said the matter could not be taken up for a short adjournment on the same day. The bench subsequently decided to defer the hearing and listed the case for consideration on a later date.
