US President Donald Trump
Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that the United States and Iran have reached a new agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the US naval blockade, describing it as a “major breakthrough” after months of tensions that disrupted global energy markets.
In a post on social media, Trump wrote: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”
He said the agreement marks a turning point in efforts to ease tensions in the Gulf region and restore stability to global shipping routes.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical passageway for global oil shipments, has been at the centre of escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran in recent months. Disruptions in the region had contributed to volatility in global oil prices and raised fears of broader conflict.
Trump said he had authorised the reopening of the waterway and the lifting of the US naval blockade imposed during the conflict.
“I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade,” he posted.
In a second post, Trump described the agreement as a historic diplomatic success.
“This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region,” he said, adding that previous US administrations had failed to reach such an outcome.
Deal to Be Signed on Friday
Trump said the agreement will be formally signed on Friday and is linked to coordinated efforts to clear naval mines from the waterway to ensure safe passage for global shipping.
“With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World!” he added.
